Computing experts will lead discussions on I/O architectures for future applications at upcoming supercomputing conference.

BEAVERTON, ORE and AUSTIN, TX – November 13, 2013 –  InfiniBand® Trade Association (IBTA), a global organization dedicated to maintaining and furthering the InfiniBand™ specification, and the  OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA), an open source community focused on developing the OpenFabrics Software for high-performance networking applications, today announced that member company representatives will discuss the future of I/O architectures for improved application performance and efficiency during a number of technical programs at SC13, taking place November 17-22 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

The IBTA-moderated session entitled, “RDMA: Scaling the I/O Architecture for Future Applications,” will focus on new approaches to I/O architecture to meet Exascale requirements. Bill Boas with the IBTA will moderate the discussion between top industry technologists Sudip Dosanjh of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, Rick Stevens of Argonne National Laboratory, Gary Grider of Los Alamos National Laboratory and Paul Grun of Cray. The panel session will take place on Wednesday, November 20 at 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in room 301/302/303.

During its Emerging Technologies exhibit entitled, “Accelerating Improvements in HPC Application I/O Performance and Efficiency”, the OFA is presenting some ideas on how implementing a new framework of I/O APIs could increase performance and efficiency for classes of applications. The Emerging Technologies exhibit is at booth #3547. The OFA will also be giving a short talk on this subject in the Emerging Technologies theatre at booth #3947 on Tuesday, November 19 at 2:50 p.m.

Ideas presented at the OFA’s Emerging Technologies exhibit will be further developed in its Birds of a Feather (BoF) session, entitled “Discussing an I/O Framework to Accelerate Improvements in Application I/O Performance,” taking place on Thursday, November 21 at 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. in room 601/603. The OFA-sponsored BoF session will discuss how developers and end-users can enhance and further encourage the growth of open source I/O software and will be moderated by Paul Grun of Cray and Sean Hefty of Intel.
