InfiniBand Connected Systems Grow 12% Compared to the June 2019 List, Including the Top Three Systems

BEAVERTON, Ore. – December 10, 2019 – The InfiniBand® Trade Association (IBTA), a global organization dedicated to maintaining and furthering the InfiniBand specification, today reported the latest TOP500 List results show that HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand accelerates 31 percent of new InfiniBand-based systems on the List, including the fastest TOP500 supercomputer built this year. The results also highlight InfiniBand’s continued position in the top three supercomputers in the world and acceleration of six of the top 10 systems. Since the TOP500 List release in June 2019,  InfiniBand’s presence has increased by 12 percent, now accelerating 141 supercomputers on the List.

Additional TOP500 List Achievements:

“InfiniBand is the leading high-performance interconnect on the TOP500 list and continues to grow and is now accelerating 141 supercomputers. These systems are leveraging InfiniBand to enable innovation and research in vertical markets such as astronomy, medicine, AI, quantum mechanics, mechanical engineering and much more,” said Bill Lee, IBTA Marketing Working Group Co-Chair. “Additionally, HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand made its debut on the July 2019, List and now connects nearly a third of the new InfiniBand platforms on the List. This demand for HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand and InfiniBand’s overall presence on the List signifies an increasing need for interconnects that deliver efficiency, bandwidth and the fastest speeds currently on the market. We are proud that InfiniBand is able to rise to these challenges and enable high performance for the world’s top systems.”

The TOP500 List reflects the evolving data center ecosystem. Each new List reports the top supercomputers that execute the world’s most complex and demanding workloads. As needs change and new supercomputers are built, the technology that powers these systems must adapt to the industry’s demand for data and enhanced performance. InfiniBand’s prominent presence on this List is indicative of its ability to provide the speed, low latency and scalability that the world’s top systems require. Leveraging Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) fabrics such as InfiniBand and RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) also offers data centers reliability, efficiency and a highly interoperable environment for these systems to expand.

The TOP500 List (www.top500.org) is published twice per year and ranks the top supercomputers worldwide based on the LINPAC benchmark rating system, providing valuable statistics for tracking trends in system performance and architecture.
