The InfiniBand® Trade Association’s (IBTA) RDMA networking specifications continues to see massive success and adoption in the HPC market, including InfiniBand and RoCE-based Ethernet. According to the June 2025 TOP500 list, these technologies power 357 systems, accounting for 71% of the world’s top supercomputers. InfiniBand alone accelerates a record high of 271 systems, while RoCE-based Ethernet connects 86 systems.
Diving deeper into the list, InfiniBand connects 62 of the TOP100 supercomputers, reinforcing its leadership in performance and scalability. InfiniBand also powers 7 of the TOP10 most energy-efficient systems on the June 2025 Green500 list, including the two top-ranked systems, underscoring its efficiency for sustainable supercomputing. With products supporting the IBTA’s XDR 800Gb/s InfiniBand specification available now with systems announced, such as NERSC’s Douda, the industry is poised for significant performance advancements. RDMA technologies, whether InfiniBand or RoCE-based Ethernet, are essential for managing the increasing complexity and scale of AI-driven and exascale computing tasks.
Published twice a year and publicly available at www.top500.org, the TOP500 list ranks the world’s most powerful computer systems based on the Linpack benchmark rating system.
