InfiniBandSM Trade Association Announces Fall 2000 Developers' Conference
Conference Expected to Attract 700 Leading Developers to Las Vegas
PORTLAND, ORE. September 12, 2000 - The InfiniBand Trade Association today announced its second developers' conference will be held October 24-26 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference is a follow up to the sold-out developers' conference that the trade association held in June in Newport Beach, California.
"InfiniBand is approaching a critical stage of spec finalization and product development," said Vernon Turner, VP Commercial System and Server, International Data Corporation. "In the past few months we have seen a large number of companies make InfiniBand product commitments. For end users, InfiniBand Architecture provides robust server I/O performance that will enable a new class of performance in the data center and Internet applications."
The Developers Conference will feature a multi-day tutorial on the InfiniBand Architecture specification by the primary architects of the technology. This event is open to members and the public. Hotel reservations may be made directly with the Mandalay Bay (877-632-7000). Online registration for the conference is available at http://www.infinibandta.org/.
Launched in August 1999, the trade association is made up of seven founding companies: Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems, and more than 180 member companies.
To view a current list of members visit http://www.infinibandta.org/meminfo/roster. These companies have been working closely to create a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric server I/O architecture that provides for a scalable performance range of 500MB/s to 6GB/s per link. The 1.0 version of this specification is expected to be finalized and released in October 2000.
The InfiniBand Trade Association is comprised of eight special workgroups, each with its own charter, area of expertise, and responsibilities related to the specification development process. The workgroups include: Marketing, Technical, Applications, ElectroMechanical, Link, Management, Software and Compliance and Interoperability.
InfiniBand Trade Association
The Internet is creating increased demand for server computer I/O subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility. A shift to a switched fabric-based I/O architecture will enable industry participants to meet this increased demand. The InfiniBand Trade Association is developing a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric architecture that provides a scalable performance range of 500MB/s to 6GB/s per link, meeting the needs from entry level to high-end enterprise systems. InfiniBand Trade Association represents the industry's choice for developing I/O technologies that will keep pace with the demands of the Internet age.
