Description:
The Voltaire Fibre Channel Router module is a high-performance, RDMA capable, intelligent,
InfiniBand-to-Fibre Channel (FC) router that easily integrates with Voltaire Grid Backbone switches. The Voltaire FC Router simplifies the connectivity of InfiniBand clusters and storage area networks (SANs), eliminating I/O bottlenecks while improving storage manageability and reducing costs. The router module can operate as a transparent Fibre Channel bridge or can be integrated with existing SAN virtualization tools.

The absence of scalable back end storage is a primary barrier to achieving an optimal cluster computing environment. Connecting clusters or grids to FC SANs with the Voltaire FC Router eliminates the need to form a parallel FC fabric connected to all of the servers. This enables higher aggregate throughput of 10 Gbps per server for high performance storage applications and eliminates an otherwise costly investment. Voltaire FC Routers allow for granular scalability whereby more router modules can be added over time to satisfy growing bandwidth requirements.

The Voltaire FC Router centralizes SAN connectivity for InfiniBand-enabled servers, using the iSCSI RDMA (iSER) protocol. The servers access the SAN using 10 Gbps InfiniBand links, which the Voltaire FC Router seamlessly converts to Fibre Channel traffic. This eliminates the need for FC HBA adapters while also providing higher throughput for the connection to existing FC SANs.
